Evaluation of legal migration rules finds them mostly "fit for purpose" but highlights "critical issues" for the future

Those issues include a need for "a more harmonised and effective approach to attract highly skilled workers"; more stringent enforcement of the existing rules; and "information campaigns to raise awareness of the rights and procedures established by the EU legal migration instruments".
New legislation "to tackle the inconsistencies, gaps and other shortcomings identified, so as to simplify, streamline, complete and generally improve EU legislation," is also suggested.
