In December 2000, Privacy International will present the third annual UK "Big Brother" awards to the government and private sector organisations that have done the most to invade personal privacy in Britain.
The awards will be bestowed at a special event on 4 December at the London School of Economics. "Winston" awards will also be given to individuals and organisations which have made an outstanding contribution to the protection of privacy, as well as to people who have been victims of privacy invasion.
Three "Big Brother" awards will be presented to:
which have done most to invade personal privacy. A "Lifetime Menace" award will also be presented.
Previous award winners include Jack Straw, the Department of Trade and Industry, Harlequin, Newham Council, and Racal.
Channel 4's Mark Thomas will present the awards.
The event will occur in the Old Theatre at the The London School of Economics, Houghton Street London WC2A 2AE, (Ground floor, Old Building) at 7:15pm on 4 December 2000.
A reception will be held at 6pm in the Senior Dining Room, 5th floor, Old Building.

Privacy International (PI) was formed in 1990 as a non-government watchdog on surveillance and privacy invasion. The organisation has campaigned throughout the world on dozens of issues ranging from identity cards and encryption policy, to workplace surveillance and military intelligence. PI's membership includes IT specialists, lawyers, judges and journalists from forty countries.
