Statewatch editor, Tony Bunyan, has been selected by the European Voice newspaper as one of the fifty most influential people in the EU over the past year. The EV50 as it is known was selected by a "distinguished panel of opinion-leaders and journalists". The Brussels-based paper is now running an online poll to find the top 10 "Europeans of the Year" from the fifty names - the ten winners will receive 5,000 euros each to give to a charity of their choice.
The voting form is on: EV50 vote
Tony Bunyan commented:
"It is good to see that our work on civil liberties and fighting for access to documents in the EU has been recognised. Though looking at the others on the list like Berlusconi, Blair, Bush and Solana I'll be lucky to come 50th".
