Leading NGOs submit amendments on justice and home affairs to the Convention

The Standing Committee of experts on international immigration, refugee and criminal law (the "Meijers Committee", Utrecht, Netherlands) and Statewatch (London, UK) have submitted an extensive series of amendments on justice and home affairs to the Convention on the future of Europe.

The submission raises serious concerns which are:

"inspired by the wish to ensure that executive power when exercised by the Council and its committees, agencies or independent bodies is subject to independent scrutiny and overall accountability to parliaments, the judicial system and ultimately to the citizen"
