European Parliament resolution on airline passenger data gains wide support
The Resolution considered by a special meeting in Strasbourg of the European Parliament's Committee on Citizens' Freedom and Rights on Monday (10 March) has attracted a series of amendments which make its opposition to the Joint Declaration of the European Commission and the USA on access to the personal data of passengers even stronger.
Seven of the amendments tabled are backed by all the main political groups (EPP, conservative group; PSE, socialist group; ELDR, Liberal group; Green/ALE group, GUE, United Left; plus Mauricio Turco and Marco Cappato. An eighth amendment is backed by the same coalition but without the EPP.
