UK: Home Office consults on data retention and access to communications data
01 March 2003
The UK Home Office has published two consultation papers, one on access to communications data by state agencies (under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, RIPA 2000), the other on data retention (under the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001, ATCS 2001). This follows major criticisms of the government's first proposals and their withdrawal. The consultation period runs to 3 June 2003.
