Statewatch editor, Tony Bunyan, has been selected by the European Voice newspaper as one of the fifty most influential people in the EU in 2004 for working "to protect civil liberties, put at risk by the package of anti-terrorism measures".

The EV50, as it is known, are selected by a "distinguished panel of opinion-leaders and journalists". The Brussels-based paper is now running an online poll to find the top 10 "Europeans of the Year" from the fifty people - the ten winners will receive 5,000 euros each to give to a charity of their choice.
