Denmark:
Raids and arrests againt solidarity organisation for "terrorist"
fund-raising
On
9 August 2005 Patrick Mac Manus, spokesperson for the Danish
solidarity association Oproer (Rebellion) was arrested
and charged with "attempted breach" of the Danish criminal
code paragraph 114(a)(2) for "directly or indirectly collecting
funds for a group or organisation which has the intent of committing
terrorist actions". The charge is related to a television
news interview broadcast on 1 August in which Mr. Mac Manus announced
the launch of an international appeal by Oproer to European
democratic organisations and solidarity movements urging them
to challenge national anti-terrorism legislation and the EU "terrorists
list". Oproer had set itself the goal of collecting
Dkr 500.000 in support of resistance and liberation movements
designated as "terrorists" by the EU (see appeal).
Files and a computer were taken during a search of Mr. Mac Manus'
home and office, he was released the same day.
On 12 August 2005 a Magistrate's Court in Copenhagen ordered the removal of webpages containing Oproers' the International Appeal to European organisations in English, Spanish and Danish text from the Oproer website [link]. The Court's decision has been appealed to the High Court but no date has been set. Oproer immediately urged other organisations to re-publish the international appeal on their websites. At least five other organisations, including the parliamentary party Red-Green Alliance, have now done so. Police authorities had stated would respond to any such action but have now apparently decided not to intervene.
