Background: Last week the Home Secretary announced that the government was dropping plan to create a mega-database holding copies of all communications (e-mails, phone-calls, mobile phone calls and internet usage) but: Jacqui's secret plan to 'Master the Internet': 'Climb down' on central database was 'a sideshow' (Register, link) and Jacqui Smith's secret plan to carry on snooping - The home secretary has vowed to scrap a ‘big brother’ database, but a bid to spy on us all continues (Sunday Times, link):
