EU: European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS): Revision of FRONTEX's mandate: EDPS calls for clear rules on data protection

Revision of FRONTEX's mandate: EDPS calls for clear rules on data protection (Press release, pdf) and Full-text of Opinion (pdf). The EDPS "believes that the proposed Regulation should - to the extent necessary and appropriate - clearly address the question of the scope of activities that may give rise to the processing of personal data by FRONTEX" and:

Peter Hustinx, EDPS, says: "I am surprised to see that the proposal is silent about the processing of personal data by FRONTEX, all the more so as the new legal framework in which FRONTEX is to operate in the near future is changing so fundamentally. It is essential to lay down clear rules on data protection and provide for a clarification of the conditions and circumstances under which data processing by FRONTEX could take place.”
