UK: Email and web use 'to be monitored' under new laws (BBC, link) The government will be able to monitor the calls, emails, texts and website visits of everyone in the UK under new legislation set to be announced soon.

Media coverage: Email snooping laws: as idiotic as they are illiberal (Telegraph, link); Web surveillance - who’s got your data? (BBC, link); Internet companies warn over government email surveillance plans (Guardian, link)

This is a clear reversal by the coalition government on their pledge to "end the storage of internet and email records without good reason" and marks the revival of the Labour government's much criticised Interception Modernisation Programme.

Our work is only possible with your support.
