Germany: Anti-fascist camp banned in Dortmund

24/08/2012 - A summer camp for anti-fascist activists, where workshops and presentations were planned, has been banned by local authorities a day before the camp was scheduled to start in Dortmund. Organisers of the camp were surprised by the decision because negotiations with local authorities had been going well. The city of Dortmund has a serious problem with neo-Nazi organisations. Local authorities cited the fact that neo-Nazis were planning to march on the camp as one of the reasons for banning it. [1] Organisers of the camp argue that this amounts to "giving in to the fascists". A call has been published on the camp's website calling on people to come to Dortmund. [2] A first public meeting is planned for Friday at 10 am on the Friedrichsplatz [3].

Other renowned anti-fascist organisations, such as the Auschwitz Comity, have issued declarations repudiating the banning, and demanding its withdrawal. [4]
