Agence Europe news agency reports that in Riga on 3 June the European Commissioner for Justice, Vera Jourova, said that once the US Congress had passed the Judicial Redress Act that both side can finalise the "Umbrella" Agreement on data protection. "We are not there yet, but we have not much further to go", the Commissioner said. The Agreement has been under negotiation since 2010 and the European Parliament has maintained that the new EU Regulation on data protection must be put in place firs.
