On 8 September, 13 migrants were returned from Lesvos to Turkey without being given the opportunity to access legal assistance. 10 of the migrants - from Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Algeria, Palestine and Lebanon - were dismissed at first and second instance while the other three had waived their right to file an application against their return.
Members of the Legal Service of the Greek Refugee Council had repeatedly proposed to offer help for free, but they did so in vain: the request of counsel for a short interview with the migrants in question was rejected by the Greek authorities.
According to the Greek Refugee Council, at least two vulnerable people were amongst the deported - one man with heart problems and another suffering from kidney failure.
