Annual report highlights racial and sexual violence
artdoc April=1992

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner's annual report to the Home
Secretary for 1989 reveals that violent attacks in London have
increased by 19%, while sexual offences have risen by 23% and
racial attacks by 22%. Only one in seven crimes reported to the
police were cleared up. The report also showed that there were
only 42 new ethnic minority recruits to the Metropolitan police
in 1989, four fewer than in the previous year. (New Life 29.7.90)
