Attacks on mosques
artdoc June=1991

Local residents and shopkeepers in Kirklees have criticised the
police for failing to deal with racial incidents. Their
criticism follows the desecration of the Westtown mosque by
racists who daubed obscene racist slogans on its walls and
caused 4000 damage. Previous to that, an Asian house in the
same area, where a family lay sleeping, was petrol bombed.
Miraculously, the family escaped unhurt. (Asian Times 11.9.90)
A Birmingham mosque in Perry Bar named after President
Saddam was doused with petrol and set alight. Four men were
seen by the police running away from the building's rear
entrance, one of whom was described as a skinhead, wearing a
British Bulldog T-Shirt. Inspector David Simpson of Queens
Road police station said: `Since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait
last month police had kept a special watch on the mosque in
case of reprisals'. (Sandwell Mail 17.9.90)
