Austrian Bishops shutdown anti-Jewish cult
The Austrian Bishops' Conference is to close down the anti-
Semitic cult of `Little Andrew of Rinn', in the Tyrol. The cult
developed in the 18th century, around the site of an alleged
ritual murder, which came to be known as `Judenstein' (Jewish
Stone) and drew pilgrims from Austria and abroad (Jewish
Chronicle 11.11.94).
Neo-nazi leader jailed
Gerhard Endres, who took over the leadership of the banned
People's Extra-Parliamentary Opposition (VAPO), after the arrest
in 1992 of Gottfried Küssel, has been jailed for two years
(Independent 12.8.94).
Police raid far-Right base
A raid carried out by anti-terrorist police, has led to the
arrest of two men connected to the far-Right and the seizure of
a cache of automatic rifles and explosives in the village of
Goepfritz an der Wild, north west of Vienna. A second world war
T34 tank and a modern armoured personnel carrier were also
discovered on the farm which is close to Austria's biggest
military training area.
Since the letter-bomb campaign a year ago there have been
allegations that explosive used in the bombs came from army stock
(Independent 3.12.94).
