In a case testing the validity of the ban on broadcasting representatives or supporters of Sinn Fein, Republican Sinn Fein, the Ulster Defence Association and any organisation proscribed under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1984 and the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978, the House of Lords ruled that the ban was lawful and not unreasonable.
