Data from the Survey are used to explore the incidence of
crime which has previously been thought to be higher in
Scotland than elsewhere. They show that most offence rates
are similar to those in England and Wales but that more
offences come to the notice of the police in Scotland.
Reasons for this state of affairs are discussed. 14 refs
