Finds that there is no significant association between
increases in recorded crime and increases in unemployment, nor
between increases in recorded crime and increases in the number
of police. However increases in unemployment, seem to be
associated with increases in the number of policemen. A major
part of the increase in recorded crime may be due to the
increase in the proportion of offences recorded
rather than the number of offences which occur.
