Damages against police
artdoc June=1991

The Metropolitan police are to pay ¼25,000 without admission of
liability, to Mr. Mohammad Hajiazim of Feltham, west London,
who had a testicle removed after an alleged assault by two
policemen in September 1987. (Observer 3.3.91)
Jasmin Hodge-Lake and Michael McMillan of Mount Pleasant,
south-east London, have received an apology from the
Metropolitan police and ¼3,500 damages following their arrest
on a bus in 1986 when a bus inspector accused Michael of using
a stolen ticket. Jasmin, then seven months pregnant, was
charged with obstruction. Their solicitor, Jane Achester said
that the arrests should never have happened and `they were
treated very badly. Even the judge said it was a deplorable
case.' (Voice 26.2.91)
Meanwhile, Jason Hill, the teenager initially accused of
murdering PC Keith Blakelock in the 1985 Broadwater Farm
`riots', is suing police for damages. (Observer 10.2.91)
