Denmark: Visas for ex-Yugoslavian refugees
artdoc March=1993

Visa requirements introduced for refugees from ex-Yugoslavia

In October, new visa requirements were introduced for refugees
from Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. justice Minister Hans
Engell has drawn up plans for deporting large numbers of former
Yugoslavians who, according to him, hail from areas not hit by
civil war. According to the Jyllands-Posten (24.9.92), the first
20-30 Macedonians and Croatians had already been sent back home
after it was alleged that their grounds for seeking asylum were
not justified (Jyllands-Posten 30.10.92; 22.9.92).
The Danish Refugee Help organisation has condemned these rapid
deportations and particular concern has been voiced at the way
in which immigration police are refusing to accept identity
papers from Bosnians as legitimate documentation. (Jyllands
Posten 13.10.92)
