The EU is ready for a "seamless transition" that will allow the EU to take over the NATO peacekeeping SFOR operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina as early as this summer. The final decision will be made at the NATO summit in Istanbul on 28-29 June. Whereas the two other EU military operations, in Macedonia and Congo, have only required 300 and 1,300 troops respectively, the Bosnia operations will require the deployment of 7,000 troops. Contrary to a previous decision the EU and not NATO will be in charge of capturing suspected war criminals wanted by the Court in The Hague. The EU troops will use NATO assets and planning. A small NATO force of 200-300 soldiers will stay on.
