Gays awarded damages
artdoc July=1991

A lesbian and three gay men have been awarded ¼30,000
damages from Staffordshire police after suing for malicious
prosecution. The four were arrested and detained for
protesting outside the home of councillor Bill Brownhill in
December 1986. They accused the arresting officers of making
derogatory remarks and assaulting one of the female
demonstrators. One of the policemen involved in the case is
reported to have said that the solution to AIDS was to put
all gays in a gas chamber. The case was settled out of
court. (Independent 15.1.91; Times 15.1.91)
