Germany: Deaths in custody

According to the German government, six asylum seekers or refugees have died in police custody or during deportations over the past year. The statement was made in answer to a parliamentary question placed by the PDS (Party of Democratic Socialism) group in the national parliament (Bundestag). Of the six deaths, four occurred in police custody, one in custody of the Federal Border Guard and one during a deportation. Details of the causes of death were not given.
