On 9 September, members of the Greek armed forces posted on the Greek-Turkish border on the river Ebro spotted and began collecting the bodies of would-be migrants who died in an attempt to reach the Greek side of the river. The body count of dead migrants, who are believed to have tried to use a boat that did not survive the crossing and has not been found, eventually reached 23 (21 men and 2 women), believed to have come from Pakistan.
