Hackney police disciplinary hearing goes ahead
artdoc JUne=1991

Disciplinary proceedings against seven Metropolitan police
officers allegedly involved in assaulting and threatening
customers at The Limes public house in Hackney three years ago,
have begun. The officers, who were off-duty at the time of the
incident, are all based at City Road police station.
During the incident, one man suffered a partially severed
ear when he was allegedly attacked with a broken glass. In
1989 the Director of Public Prosecutions decided not to press
criminal charges because of insufficient evidence. A number
of witnesses were reported to have refused to give evidence.
