Hackney resident seeks redress
artdoc July=1991

Ken Fosuhene is to seek a formal apology from the Metropolitan
police following an incident when he was accused of stealing a
car tax disc.
On 24 October Mr. Fosuhene was about to get into his car
when police pounced on him, accusing him of stealing the disc
and altering it to match the car. Unbeknown to Mr. Fosuhene,
the Maida Vale Post Office that issued the disc to him had
mistakenly inserted a different number to that on Mr.
Fosuhene's registration.
Mr. Fosuhene tried to explain to the police that it must
have been a Post Office mistake but they would not listen. He
was taken to City Road police station where he was questioned
for three-and-a-half hours. When police brought him back to
his home his neighbours saw him being taken into his house
handcuffed. This was deeply humiliating, says Mr. Fosuhene.
