Home Office announces new race community strategy
artdoc July=1991

The Times (31.12.90) have reported on a new Home Office
sponsored scheme aimed at developing a national race and
community strategy. Under the scheme, 40 officers have spent
weekends in the homes of ethnic minority families.
The scheme was devised by Jerome Mack, a former US Air
Force expert in community relations who now works for a
company called Equality Associates. Equality Associates have
been awarded a Home Office police contract worth 380,000 a
year.
The Home Office was said to be dissatisfied with the
central training provided by Brunel University which collapsed
when police and academics fell out. Equality Associates are
also to hold a series of courses on minorities and the
criminal justice system for High Court judges. (Times
