William Whitelaw, Home Secretary, is to take charge of the parliamentary
passage of the Police and Criminal Evidence Bill following heavy criticism from
Opposition Mps, branches of the legal profession and from other lawyer and civil
liberties groups (DIB 6156, 6184).
