Detective Chief Superintendent Melvin retired in November, four
months after his acquittal on charges of fabricating Winston
Silcott's `confession' to the killing of PC Blakelock at
Broadwater Farm in 1986. Melvin had been on suspension since
November 1991. Observer, 27.11.94.
