bacdoc March=1992

House of Commons written answer, 29 January 1992, col 610

The Secretary of State for Defence was asked by Mr Rogers:
(1) what contribution his Department is making to the costs of
studies of options for future military satellites currently being
undertaken by the Western European Union; (2) what contribution
his Department is making to the costs of operation of the Western
European Union satellite station at Torrejon air force base in
Spain.

Mr Archie Hamilton, Minster of State for Defence, replied: A
satellite data interpretation and training centre is to be
established in Spain with a United Kingdom director, for an
experimental period of three years. The United Kingdom
contribution of Ã4.6 million will be met by my Department. The
United Kingdom contribution of Ã0.6 million to WEU satellite
systems feasibility studies will be met by the Department of
Trade and Industry.
