Neighbourhood Watch patrols

At the annual conference of Neighbourhood Watch coordinators on 4 December the Home Secretary Michael Howard announced that he wanted them to start patrolling the streets. Under this "exciting new development" members of Neighbourhood Watch on patrol should not "feel they have to get involved if they see something happening", but should think about calling the police. Neighbourhood Watch, he said, had developed several offshoots including Business Watch, Farm Watch, Church Watch and Horse Watch.
