Vietnamese refugee shot dead

A Vietnamese refugee has been shot dead by the police in
Purmerend. When the Vietnamese man tried to return to his flat
which he had been thrown out of in the morning, he found that the
locks had been charged. Police, including four armed officers,
were called. According to the police, the man became aggressive
and appeared on the landing armed with two knives. They gave him
a verbal warning before firing two shots in the air. They then
shot him four times in the legs and body (Volkskrant 8.7.94).

Investigation into racism against Moroccan youth

The Commissioner of the Hague police has agreed to a request made
by `Green Links', a small political party, to investigate
complaints of discrimination against Moroccan youth. Complaints
include refusal to administer medical treatment to youth in
police custody, the fabrication of evidence, and racist and
violent behaviour (Volkskrant 17.7.94).
