Norway: Refugee with prison record deported
artdoc June=1993

15 anti-racist activists, who physically attempted to prevent the
deportation of Fadil Ibishi from Kosovo, were arrested and fined.
The reason the authorities gave for Mr. Ibishi's deportation was
the fact that he had been sentenced twice whilst in Norway. In
1990, Mr. Ibishi had been found guilty of assaulting a social
worker and in 1992, whilst working at a fast food restaurant,
four customers who had argued with him over their change had
reported him to the police.
Following his deportation, Fadil Ibishi was put straight into
prison by the Serbs. His wife and daughters are still in Norway
(Arbeiderbladet 24.3.93, VG 26.3.93).

Norwegian name-regulations

In an amazing decision, the Department of Justice has ruled that
a Turkish family who have lived in Norway for twenty years have
no right to name their 6-months-old son Oguzan Barbaros because
the name `could cause severe social problems for the child' and
could make difficulties for the schools and authorities.
Norway seems to have special `name regulations'. The Turkish
Embassy in Norway say they find the decision difficult to
believe, whilst the family have decided to leave Turkey in
disgust (Nordlys 22.4.93).
