The last nuclear test conducted by the United Kingdom was in December 1989.
Government Minister Mr.Caborn said:

The Government regard it as essential that we continue to test nuclear
weapons as long as we remain a nuclear state, as we intend to do for the
foreseeable future.

The French authorities had announced four tests so far in 1990, he said, and the
