Oldham - another attack
artdoc May=1991

A group of Asian teenagers in Glodwick came into confrontation with the
police following an incident in which 15-year-old Nusser Rafiq suffered
a broken bone and extensive bruising after he was hit by a car as he
made his way home from school. The driver, who is described as a
16-year-old white male, yelled `black bastard' at Nusser before running
him down and dragging him ten feet. Following this, 30 to 40 Asian
youths attacked local gypsy caravans where the driver was suspected to
be hiding. Police in the area have urged the Asian community to remain
calm and leave the matter to the authorities.
Last year, Asian schoolboy, Tahir Akram, died after being shot by a
white youth with an air gun rifle, again in Glodwick. (Manchester
