Police compensation payments [Met]
artdoc September=1992

The Metropolitan Police have been ordered to pay Ã20,000
compensation to a man they assaulted and then maliciously
prosecuted. The jury awarded the sum, which included Ã5,000
exemplary damages, to Tony Gilsenan, 43, who had been beaten when
arrested and unsuccessfully charged with assaulting the police.
A Northampton civil servant, Graham McCrindle, 30, was awarded
Ã18,000 damages by the High Court for wrongful arrest, false
imprisonment and assault after he was pinned to the ground by a
plainclothes detective in Northampton city centre. McCrindle lost
his job as a result of the incident.
