Policing, Spring 1986 2(1) pp47-55

Lists various types of corruption which may affect the course of
justice or amount to criminal dishonesty and examines some major
cases involving officers of the Metropolitan Police since its
establishment. Suggests that there is a ladder of corrupt
practices which may eventually lead an officer into serious
trouble starting with the acceptance of small favours such as
free meals. Practical solutions include stricter inquiry by the
courts into the granting of bail and careful supervision of all
young officers. 25 notes and references .
