Considers the extent of changes in the treatment of suspects
brought about by the Police and Criminal Justice Act 1984 and its
accompanying Codes of Practice. Suggests that although there are
still many complaints, the introduction of recorded interviews
with suspects is one area of notable success, and may be the
single most important reform of the criminal justice system in
recent years. Compares it with some Canadian experiences.
