Police malpractice in Hackney

Hackney Community Defence have taken up 69 cases of police malpractice in 1990; of these 55 involved black people. In 30 cases people sustained injuries and 11 had to go to hospital. Of the 42 cases in which charges were brought they were dropped in 17 cases and acquittals resulted in another 12. Nine people await a court hearing and only four have been convicted. These cases do not include the 31 cases taken up by HCDA in March 1990 arising out of the anti-poll tax protest in Hackney. Community Defence Winter 1990/91
