Outlines the public concern arising from police tactics and the
actions of individual officers in riots and other public
disturbance. Three types of factor affecting attitudes towards
the police are examined: non criminal contact with the police,
contact as a suspect and contact as a victim of crime. Attitudes
expressed in terms of demands for particular kinds of policing
are also discussed. 32 references .
