Mrs Rumbold, Minster of State at the Home Office, said that the
number of prisoners under 21 years old who committed suicide in
custody since 1979 was as follows:

(1)(to 4 November).
(2) The figures include all deaths which appear to have
been deliberately self-inflicted, whether or not a
verdict of suicide was recorded at the inquest.
(3) Inquests have yet to be held on 3 other prisoners
under 21 who have died in 1991.
