Glasgow Rangers have banned a member of their exclusive
Premier Club for shouting racial epithets at lbrox player,
Mark Walters during a match against Dundee United in November.
The racist fan, jumped out of his ¼216 a season seat and
began hurling abuse at Walters. The man was later escorted
from his seat by Ibrox stewards and ejected from the game.
According to Rangers security adviser Allistair Hood, `After
the incident in the Govan rear stand on November 10, I carried
out a full investigation. The supporter involved was tracked
down and told his season ticket would be immediately
withdrawn. He was not allowed to attend the game against
Hearts on Saturday and he is banned from Ibrox Stadium until
further notice.'
The Home Office, which is cracking down on football fans
shouting obscenities and racial abuse, has just announced new
laws which will make verbal abuse during football games a
crime. (Glasgow Evening Times 4.12.90; Glasgow Herald 5.12.90;
