Romania: Extreme-right leader re-elected
artdoc April=1993

Nationalist party re-elects extreme-Right leader

Corneliu Vadim Tudor, a poet associated with anti-Semitic and
racist views, was re-elected as leader of the Greater Romania
Party which, following a general election last September, now
has seats in parliament for the firs time. At the party's
annual congress, party members urged an anti-Hungarian
crackdown and for minimising the role of foreign capital in
the country (Independent 8.3.93).

President of Romanian TV publishes his own `Mein Kampf'

Paul Everac, the newly-appointed president of Romanian TV, has
published an article in the journal Romanian Libera under the
title `Everac's Mein Kampf. In the piece, Everac outlines the
course of action he would take if made head of state.
His programme includes the creation of an elitist society
based on a three-tier caste system. In order to retain
society's purity, `purificators' (who would have to practise
chastity) would be selected and would bring to strict justice
all cheats, frauds, and those who lack discipline. Preventing
overbreeding of foreigners, particularly Gypsies, would be
another priority. Hatred of foreigners is nothing more than a
desire to survive, Everac writes.
Everac says that his beliefs follow a programme of action
that the Romanian dictator Antonesecu, in power between the
two world wars, sought to implement (Magyar Hirlap).
