Romania: Pogroms against gypsies
artdoc March=1993

As Germany begins the process of deportation of Romanian gypsies,
further evidence has emerged of the persecution of gypsies in
Romania. Both the New Statesman (9.10.92) and the Guardian
(2.10.92) have interviewed some of those attacked. The Society
for Threatened People has documented 20 known cases of pogroms
against Romanian Romanies in 1990 and 1991.

Anti-Semitism warning

Romania's Chief Rabbi, Moses Rosen, has warned against
anti-Semitism in Romania after Romania's parliamentary elections
saw gains for the nationalist Right, particularly the Romanian
National Unity Party and Romania Mare. The reemergence of the
Iron Guard is also cause for concern. (Jewish Chronicle 4.10.92)
