Slovakia: Premier accused
artdoc May=1994

The Slovak premier, Vladimir Meciar, has been accused of
harbouring nazi sentiments after he described Gypsies as `anti-
social, mentally backward and socially unadaptable'. The premier
is also reported to have said that Gypsies should have their
social benefits cut to stop them having children (Morning Star
7.9.93, Guardian 7.10.93).
