Southall murder inquiry leads to police raids
artdoc July=1991

Since the murder of a black man, Raymond Henry, on October
19th in Southall there have been a series of dawn raids on the
black community, leading to the arrests of 43 black men. 14 of
these now face charges of violent disorder and murder. They
have been denied bail on the grounds that they were likely to
`flee to the Caribbean'.
But according to the Southall Parents Movement, who are
themselves concerned about the murder of Raymond Henry, the
police murder investigation has been handled `mischievously
and improperly'. The police have claimed that there are
`organised black gangs in Southall' but this is incorrect. The
police have used this to make arrests `at random' from dozens
of black men who were questioned after the dawn raids.
