Spain: Racism in a university textbook

Professor Guillermo Quintana, of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, has written a textbook with clearly racist content. It includes pejorative remarks about black people, classing them as inferior to whites, child-like and cowardly. Although the book was denounced by students at the start of term, it was only withdrawn when the rector of the university intervened following media reports. Anti-racist groups including SOS-Racismo brought a formal complaint, admitted to hearing by a magistrate on 21 January.
