Stoke Newington police lose another case
artdoc July=1993

Another man, charged with possession of dangerous drugs, by
officers at Stoke Newington police station, has been cleared at
the Court of Appeal. Thirty-three year old Cyrus Baptiste's
conviction for possession of crack was overturned after he
claimed that officers from the station had planted the drug on
him. Earlier this year two other men, charged with drug offences
in separate incidents around the same time, were also acquitted.
In all of these cases the credibility of the police officers has
been thrown into question following an investigation into
corruption at the station (see Statewatch Vol.2 No.2 & 4)
Guardian 25.5.93.
